Immigration uncovers fictitious online passport applications

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Spokesperson of Directorate General of Immigration Agung Sampurno said, fictitious requests up to 72 thousand more in online passport applications has disturb the public. As a result, there are applicants that can not be served until January 2018.

"They were registering online with the intention to close other citizens opportunities, so that the quota will run out," he said on Monday, January 8.

Agung said, in this case there were dozens of people who perform fictitious registration. There were some unscrupulous people who perform fictitious registration up to 4,000 more in one registration by one account only. Regardless of the quota provided, it will be taken by the unscrupulous community. 

"In addition, we also found the existence of officers who play with brokers," said Agung.

He said, the Immigration office has conducted examination against unscrupulous immigration officers who proven to violate the code of ethics. Action also has been taken in accordance with applicable employment provisions. 

Agung said, community participation is also needed in terms of supervision to unscrupulous personnel who abuse the authority. "People also need to change their behavior in order to better prepare their travel plans well, therefore they do not have to prepare passport in a rush," he said. 

Agung explained that one of the causes of the increase in passport application is the change of people's behavior in traveling abroad, such as the number of cheap travel packages abroad, the change of pilgrims trend to Umrah pilgrims, Indonesians working abroad, and indication of the existence of unscrupulous people which disrupts the passport queue application system.

The Directorate General of Immigration has provided ease in passport application by simplifying the requirement with bringing e-ID card and old passport. Immigration also added the service places in addition to the 125 Immigration Offices. Passport services are also provided in 10 Passport Service Units (ULP), 16 One Stop Integrated Services (LTSP), three Immigration Working Units (UKK) and two Public Service Malls (MPP).

"We also increase the quota of every Immigration Offices to serve more people and then provide services on Saturday or Sunday from December 2017 to January 2018. On December 29, the Director General of Immigration ordered all Immigration Offices in Indonesia who are still experiencing accumulation of passport applicants to complete it in time two weeks," he explained.

Related to disruption to the passport queue application system, since December 25, 2017, the Directorate General of Immigration, has been developing and refining the application. Thus, in February 2018 applications with new performance will be implemented after registered in Google apps. 

The high number of passport applications has occurred since November 2017. Based on data from Directorate General of Immigration in 2017, the passport application reached 3,093,000 million, increase compared to 2016 which reached 3,032,000. Then in 2015 reached as many as 2,878,099 people apply for passports. (Idealisa Masyrafina)
