REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said tourism and e-commerce are two economic sectors that have strategic potential to develop.
"First is tourism because it gives fast results, has a fast impact on the field of work and fast income, including foreign exchange earnings," said the head of BKPM Thomas Lembong, after a limited meeting on investment and trade with President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
In addition to exploring the potential of natural beauty and culture, the tourism sector also creates many jobs in the field of services, according to Thomas.
The second sector is the field of e-commerce. Thomas explained that it had investments of more than US$5 billion in 2017.
"That is half of last year's investment in oil and gas sector, so the value is huge and the growth is very high," said the head of BKPM.
He explained that the growth in e-commerce reached 50 percent -80 percent Year on Year (YoY).
In addition, the government will also invite investors in the field of e-commerce from Europe, Japan, China and the Silicon Valley in the United States.
