Police have questioned all witnesses of persecution to Somad

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Advocacy team coordinator of preacher Abdul Somad's Care Forum (TA-FPUAS) Zulfikar Ramly said all witnesses have been examined in the case of alleged intimidation against the charismatic preacher. 

He said, the police on Friday (December 29) have questioned the last suspect, namely chairman of the Nadlah committee who invited preacher Somad to Bali.

The chairman committee was summoned to explain the incident experienced by ustaz Somad during his da'wah safari in Bali. The incident was considered as a form of persecution.

"All the witnesses have been examined," Ramly said in a press release received by Republika.co.id on Friday.

Therefore, Ramly expected, the police will soon complete the process of filing Arya Wedakarna's document as alleged suspect, investigate the case further and hand over the document to Attorney General Office.

He wanted the case to be tried in court, so it will be a lesson learnt for all parties.

"We must respect diversity and law in the country," he explained.

Arya was suspected to had posted a provocation to reject ustaz Somad's visit to Bali by accusing the preacher not bowed to Pancasila. 

Arya was reported to the police by Putu K Muliastawa over alleged crime as referred to Article 28 paragraph (2) Jo 45a paragraph (2) Act No. 19 of 2016 Amendment to Law No.11 of 2008 on ITE and or Article 16 of Law 40 of 2008 and Article 160 of the Criminal Code and or Article 156 and 156a of the Criminal Code.

A group of people came to Aston hotel where ustaz Somad stayed during his visit in Bali on the second week of December. They shouted, enter the hotel by force, threatened and urged cleric Somad to stated his loyalty to NKRI.

Ustaz Somad refused to do so as he did not consider himself met the accusation. 

Spokesperson of Bali Police Headquarters, Hengky Widjaja said the incident happened due to miscommunication. The police have mediated the two parties.

"Nevertheless, we will process the case as long as it has criminal element," he said.
