REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla reminded all the relevant ministers to be careful in preparing PT Freeport Indonesia divestment. He did not want Indonesia experience the similar incident as in Venezuela, whose economy currently slumped by excessive nationalization.

"Sometimes, Indonesia is not consistent. We invited foreign investors. But when they got huge benefits, we want to send them home. However, we need their investments," Kalla said aid in his keynote address on the World Economy Prospects for 2018 during a breakfast forum with the Indonesian Journalist Association in Jakarta, Thursday.

Kalla also asked the media to not positioned Indonesia as if Venezuela -- who tried too much to nationalized and divested -- in producing news.

In addition, he said beside preparing for the divestment, it was better to consider about green field investment and build facilities that support investment on mining sector.

In his view, it was better for Indonesia to focus on smelter development to increase domestic oil and gas production.

On the other hand, he acknowledged that Indonesia still needs foreign capital and funds to develop and run the economy.

"It becomes a self-criticism for me as part of ruling government. Many other countries are facing problems because of the hasty policy. It can leads people to lost trust to the country," he added.
