REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan has urged various parties to end all corrupt practices in order to build a healthy Indonesian democracy that is free from various forms of money politics.

In a press release on Friday, Hasan expressed belief that democracy without corruption can be realized by imparting political education to the public.

"In the past two weeks, several regional heads have been held by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The reason behind it was that all can be measured with money. Now, such practices must be ended immediately," the MPR chairman asserted.

Hasan also said he will support the efforts to strengthen and improve the KPK since the nation still needs the anti-graft body.

According to Hasan, Indonesia's competitiveness would potentially increase rapidly if problems related to corruption and bureaucracy were to be addressed and overcome optimally.

In the meantime, Wiratama Institute Researcher Muhammad Syarif Hidayatullah remarked in a press release here on Thursday that problems related to corruption and bureaucracy were the two main issues that had always been a cause of concern for several parties.

Syarif said the government should take serious steps to fight corruption and overcome obstacles in bureaucracy.
