Kalla to attend OIC conference in Kazakhstan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla is headed for Astana, Kazakhstan, to attend the conference of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which will discuss science and technology.

Kalla along with his wife, Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, boarded the presidential airplane from Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase of Jakarta, Antara reported here, Friday.

The entourage will transit in India to refuel and continue the trip to Astana.

According to Kalla's spokesman, Husain Abdullah, the VP will speak on science and technology, as one of the few Islamic countries that is developing the sector.

"It will inspire other members to develop their science and technology sector. The development will not only affect Indonesia, but also can be a driving factor for others to be advanced," Abdullah noted.

The conference will be held over two days, starting Sept 10, 2017.

The Vice President will explain the importance of having a prime education program and scholarships to the OIC members.

He will present the importance of cooperation to build the "center of excellence" during Working Session I next Sunday (Sept 10).

Besides this, Kalla will also conduct bilateral meetings with several countries, including the host Kazakhstan.

Kalla will make a courtesy call to President of Kazakhstan Nursultan, Monday (Sept 11).

At least 20 head of states will attend the conference that will be held in Palace of Independence, Tauelsizdik Ave 52 in Astana .

Ministers who are accompanying the VP during the visit are Coordinating Minister of Human and Cultural Development Puan Maharani and Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohammad Nasir.
