I'm not a dictator: President Jokowi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he is not a dictatorial leader.

This statement was conveyed by him when giving a quiz to one of the participant that attended inauguration of Pasanggiri Nasional and the National Youth Championship of Perguruan Pencak Silat Nasional (Persinas) at Ponpes Minhaajurrosyidiin, East Jakarta, Tueday (August 8).

At that time, Jokowi asked a participant named Gladis to move closer and said she didn't need to be afraid.

"Don't be afraid, your president is not a dictator," Jokowi said.

Furthermore, Jokowi said many people called him an authoritarian leader. But, he insist that he is not a dictator figure.

"Many people in social media said lately if President Jokowi is authoritarian, but how can a face like mine be a dictator?" he added.

Many people accused if the government of Indonesia has become a dictator. This followed Jokowi signed presidential regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) No.2/2017 on Mass Organizations on July 10.

This law gives the government the power to disband an organization without due process. It also prohibits any organization to adopt and spread an ideology contradicting to Pancasila.
