REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAROS -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated and inspected the Maros Baru People's Market in Pallantikang, Maros Baru Sub-district, Maros District, South Sulawesi Province, on Thursday.

Accompanied by South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, the president signed an inscription for the inauguration of the new market and later toured it for around an hour and interacted with several vendors.

The market is spread over a one-hectare land and has 278 indoor units, 44 stalls, 56 dry stalls, 40 wet stalls, manager room, prayer room, toilet and nursing areas, as well as smoking room.

Later on the same day, the president and his entourage will leave Makassar for Balikpapan for a work visit to East Kalimantan Province.

Jokowi arrived in Makassar on Wednesday to attend a function to observe the 2017 National Cooperative Day, to conduct the groundbreaking of several wind power plant projects, and to inaugurate the traditional market in Maros Baru.

South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo said he had made preparations for the inauguration of the market by the head of state.

In addition, the regional government expressed hope that the head of state would visit several locations, such as the Fly Over Bridge of the Barru-Bone lane, Trans Sulawesi Railway Project, Makassar New Port, and the Engineering College of Unhas University.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, the president took a few minutes of his time to greet several Makassar residents who were at a shopping mall along Boulevard Street.
