REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian Textile Asociation (API) recorded sluggish sales in the last five years. The worst was the second quarter of 2017 where the decline reached 30 percents compared to the first quarter.

Chairman of API Ade Sudrajat said, in the previous years, the demands of textile product significantly increased ahead to Eid al-Fitr. It was clearly showed by the density of vehicle to Tanah Abang Wholesale Center ahead to Ramadan.

But, the demands were decreased in the last few years. On the second quarter of 2016, there was upraising of 10 percent demands of textile product. But, it was plummeted up to 30 percent during the second quarter of 2017.

"This is the worst Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) during the last 30 years,” said Ade to Republika.co.id on Tuesday (July 4).

Textile product sales in the domestic market during the first quarter of 2017 recorded three percent of decrease. Ade predicted it was caused by the increase of basic electricity tariff. It called the people to allocate more money on this.

Ade expected the government to stimulate the development of textile industries by giving certainty to the prices of energies. He also expected it to improve the financial policies, especially those related to taxes. He argued that the Director General of Tax had been incessant to take taxes from the upstream industry, but not from the retail.
