REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former US President Barack Obama delivered his speech at the opening of Indonesian Diaspora Network Global (IDNG) congress, at Main Hall Kota Kasablanka, South Jakarta, Saturday (July 1). During 30 minutes speech, Obama stated his feeling towards the country where he spent two years of his childhood.

"Indonesia is a part of me," Obama remarked.

Obama was a third grader in Elementary school when he moved to Indonesia. During 1969 to 1971, he lived in Indonesia with his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, and his Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.

Obama also shared his experience in strolling around Bali and Yogyakarta.

Speaking at IDNG congress opening has become his first speech in Asia after completing his tenure as US president on January 2017.

"This is a very special visit, I bring my family. Yesterday, I was in Yogyakarta, visited Prambanan and Borobudur temple. Wherever I go, I was offered with bakso, es cendol, es kelapa muda," said Obama.
