Jokowi witnesses distribution of food package in home town

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo witnessed the distribution of food packages in a neighborhood near his home in Solo, Central Java, on Monday afternoon.

Jokowi, as the president is called, walked from his home to a parking lot in Saba Buana Graha hall, which is located around 250 meters away, head of the press, media and information bureau of the presidential secretariat, Bey Machmudin, said in a press release.

Jokowi witnessed the distribution of 4 thousand packages of food to the people living near his home in Solo, which started at 3pm, and came to the location at 3.40 p.m.

The former mayor of Solo was enthusiastically welcomed by the people. Many of the people made efforts to shake hands or take selfies with him.

The president gladly shook hands with them and considered their request for selfies with them.

Upon arrival at the location, Jokowi spoke to the people in the queue. During conversation with them, it was revealed that some of them were from outside Surakarta, such as Purwodadi and Karanganyar.

After witnessing the distribution of food packages, he returned home on foot.
