REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANYUWANGI - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya have inaugurated NAM Air Jakarta-Banyuwangi flight service to increase economic condition in the region.
"When talking about Banyuwangi, I am always enthusiastic because the area has potential economic values and attractive tourism destinations," the Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, said here on Friday.
The NAM Air of Sriwijaya Group has started its maiden flight from Soekarno Hatta Airport, Jakarta, by Boeing 737-500 carrying 150 passengers.
Sumadi said the Sriwijaya Group has conducted a right step by opening a flight service to Banyuwangi, the easternmost area of Java that has a lot of potensial.
Additionally, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the flight route has a potential market with passengers targeted coming from surrounding areas such as Jember, Situbondo, Bondowoso, and the western area of Bali.
"The total population of these five regions is recorded at around 6 million people. If we could take just one percent of the population it would mean 600 passengers," the Minister said.
