REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police have conducted an investigation after packages containing 500 detonators were found at the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"Why would they be sent to Pontianak? This has been investigated by the police," police spokesman Inspector General Setyo Wasisto remarked here, Tuesday.

The packages were sent from Maros District in South Sulawesi to their destination in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Wasisto said the police have already unearthed the sender's identity.

"We have the data, and we will take measures soon," he noted.

Earlier on Sunday, five packages containing 500 detonators were found at the Sultan Hasanuddin airport. The packages were about to be sent to Pontianak in West Kalimantan, but they were detected during an x-ray examination.

The detonators were ready to be delivered through logistics company Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir. No suspicions arose when the officials weighed the packages, labeled as containing documents and food, at the airport's cargo bay.

However, the authorities became suspicious when the packages were screened through an X-ray machine. They then asked the courier staff to open the boxes. The airport officers found the detonators covered in cartons and cake wrappers, which prompted them to move the packages to an empty, secure area.

It was the second finding after the one in January in which the authorities had also found detonators to be sent to Pontianak.
