REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara said Wannacry Ransomware infected 12 institutions in Indonesia. He expected the actual number could be higher than reported.

"We received 12 reports and it was confirmed, but it could be more than that," said Rudiantara in Malang on Saturday (May 20).

Rudiantara said the institution with infected computers were not only located in Jakarta, but also in Sulawesi. They worked in plantation, manufacturing, health, and general administration sector.

"But generally, the spread was not significant as media keep reminding the society," said him.

Rudiantara said, although the country had been free from WannaCry, it was not always free from virus attacks. There were still six to eight viruses spread.

"The virus is not as destructive as WannaCry. It was existed and spread, but the number has been decreasing, from thousands to hundreds in Indonesia," said him.

He appealed that the society anticipate the threat of viruses by routinely change the password of email account and ATM pin.

"Do a regular back up and software updates or download newest antivirus," he advised.
