Admission test to state universities considers participants’ competences

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir visited the skill examination of Simultaneous Admission Test of State Universities (SBMPTN) 2017 in Makassar State University (UNM), South Sulawesi on Wednesday. 

He was accompanied by Director General of Learning and Colleges Intan Ahmad and UNM Rector Husain Syam. Nasir went to UNM Stadion to check the implementation of the examination. More than a thousand of participants joined the examination enthusiastically. 

"Now please be ready. We will joined a 1,600 meters per five laps of the stadion for testing the endurance,” said Nasir while flying a flag, signing that the athletic examination had been started on Wednesday (May 17).  

Dozens of participants ran in the laps. 1,722 participants were interested in studying sports in UNM. 

The skill examination for art and sports study program was held on May 17-18 by state universities. The test for art students included knowledge and skill tests, while the sports students got physical examination and motoric skill test. 

Nasir said that the practical test for the participants of SBNMPTN 2017 who chose skill program studies. It was important to increase the competence of Indonesian human resources. 

Muhadjir insisted that the graduate student competences should be elevated. They should be able to compete in the global era. Therefore, there would be more polytechnics in the future. 

The minister also visited the test for people with disabilities. “All people have the same right to compete in entering the state universities,” he said. 

As much as 50,154 people joined the skill test held by 25 local committees. Earlier, they had joined a written test on Tuesday (May 16) held by 42 local committees. About 797,738 people competed to enter 85 state universities in Indonesia.
