REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi supported Indonesia to co-host FIBA World Cup of Basketball 2023. Indonesia proposed to co-host the competition together with Philipines and Japan.

Nahrawi argued the event was very important as FIBA World Cup could be Indonesian chance to be representative host of international basketball competition.

''This will bring positive impact to the society so that the sport organization and government could be the host of international competition of other sports than badminton," said Nahrawi in a press release on Friday (May 5).

However, it would take an extra ordinary efforts to realize it. There would also some other countries wanted to be host.

According to Nahrawi, Indonesia was lucky as China had been named to host the competition on 2019. But, problem could occur when FIBA implemented zoning system. "I hope this will never be hapenned," he said.

Although FIBA world Cup 2019 will be held in China, Nahrawi hoped there would no problem for other Asian countries to host the event in 2023.

The countries needed to build solid synergy. The minister did not want PP PERBASI (National Basketball Association) led by Danny Kosasih and South East Asean Basketball Asociation (SEABA) Erick Thohir to make their own movements.

''Ministry of Youth and Sports will cooperate with Foreign Ministry to run diplomatic approach for Indonesian nomination," he said.
