Govt to prepare IMF - World Bank meeting in Bali

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA -- Jakarta and Bali will be busy preparing the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in 2018.

The government is set to make the meeting a big success as it wants to use the occasion to promote the country's tourism potentials, creative industry and financial technology.

"The role of the regional administration is vital in this event. For that, I ask (the Bali administration) to be united to ensure that the meeting would end in success and Bali would be a province capable of hosting big guests," Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said when heading a coordinating meeting here on Tuesday to prepare the big event.

The IMF-World Bank annual meeting would be attended by around 12,000 - 15,000 delegates from 189 countries making it one of the largest meetings in the world in 2018, Luhut said.

The meeting with large number of delegates would provide an opportunity for Bali and Indonesia in general to promote its economic potentials, he said. He even said that Bali needs face lifting apart from maintaining order and security. 

He gave emphasis to security that has to be tightened as 23 heads of state and ministers would take part in the meeting, he added. 

Luhut also asked the Bali provincial administration to immediately start promoting the IMF-World Bank meeting through the mass media 

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika the provincial administration would improve infrastructure and prepare attractive tour packages for the delegates. 

"The meeting is a big event that puts at stake the reputation of the nation, but "I am confident we could show them the greatness of the nation," the governor said.
