REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Ambassador of the United States to Indonesia, Joseph R Donovan Jr, said that his side would like to invest in South Sumatra as this province has quite a large potential in the energy sector.
The US envoy, after meeting the South Sumatra's governor Alex Noerdin here on Tuesday, stated that the reason his country was interested to invest in this province was because of the development of a special economic zone in the Banyuasin District's area of Tanjung Api Api of South Sumatra.
According to the ambassador, his side will encourage US companies, especially those in Indonesia, to invest in South Sumatra, in an effort to develop its potential.
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has also been cooperating with the US in empowering the community's economy, he pointed out.

The envoy added that his side would explore cooperation in the matters of technology and trade for mutual benefit.
Obviously, the US side is also ready to facilitate its companies in a bid to promote the regional economic growth and investment in energy.
However, according to him, his visit to South Sumatra was not only to invest but also to strengthen relations, because some US companies are yet to be developed.
In the meantime, South Sumatra's governor Alex Noerdin revealed that the US envoy's visit had something to do with the provincial economic development.
South Sumatra is rich in energy potential, and so the US can develop these resources, he concluded.
