Military finds communist symbol near Islamic boarding school

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAMEKASAN -- The The Indonesian military (TNI) has found several hammer and sickle logos of the now-defunct Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) near Islamic boarding schools in Pamekasan district, East Java province. The communist logos were found in the sub-districts of Proppo and Palengaan.

In Proppo, the symbol was found on the wall of a mosque's bathroom at Bilaan village and on a bridge near Darut Tauhid Islamic boarding school managed by KH Ali Karrar Shinhaji, while in Palengaan, the symbol was found near Banyuanyar Islamic boarding school.  

"A team of officers from TNI and police has got rid of the PKI's hammer and sickle symbols," spokesman for the Pamekasan district police Adjunct Commissioner Osa Maliki said.

Chief of the Darut Tauhid Islamic boarding school KH Ali Karrar assisted the security personnel in removing the PKI symbol put on the wall of the mosque's bathroom and the bridge.

The police and military personnel kept monitoring the possibility of irresponsible persons spreading the symbol of the now-defunct organization to other regions. 

Some local residents believed that the attempt made by irresponsible persons to spread the PKI symbol was aimed at jeopardizing the political situation.
