Muslims should remain calm: KH Ma'ruf Amin

Teddy Lhaksmana visited Chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) KH Ma'ruf Amin at his house at Deli Street, Lorong 27, Koja, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) KH Ma'ruf Amin urged Muslims to remain calm and not provoked by current situation. He conveyed the advice after meeting Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chief of Jakarta Metro Police Inspector General M Iriawan and Jakarta Millitary Commander Lt. Gen. Teddy Lhaksmana. The meeting took place at Kiai Ma'ruf's residence, Deli Street, Lorong 27, Koja, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

"Remain calm. Muslims should not be provocated and maintain conduciveness of our state and nation condition. Do not do things that could ruin the situation and condition," he told the reporters.

In relation to the arrival of the three authorities, Kiai Ma'ruf said it was a friendship meeting. He welcomed his guests. "They visit me and I feel glad, happy. They surely reports the situation, convey good informations. Alhamdulillah. And, the condition should not be wrecked. The unity of our state and nation should be guarded, he remarked.

Kiai Ma'ruf added, in the meeting, Luhut asked the ummah to maintain the condition Capital City Jakarta. "Pak (Mr) Luhut asked us all to maintain the situation of Jakarta, especially, and national," said the Advisory of Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU).

In the other hand, Kiai Ma'ruf asked the people not to connect the meeting with the statement of the defendant of religious blasphemy case, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). Previously, Ahok accused Kiai Ma'ruf was lying when he was questioned as witness in the trial held on Tuesday. Ahok said he would sue Kiai Ma'ruf. Later, Ahok took back his words, conveyed an apology, but wondered why did he should apologize.
