West Nusa Tenggara Police issues permission on GNPF MUI's grand sermon event

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police has issued permit on the grand sermon (tabligh akbar) event proposed by the National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Council of Ulama's Fatwa (GNPF MUI). The event to be held on Sunday (January 29) at the Round Square Central Lombok. "All the requirements have been fullfiled by the organizing commitee," Head of Public Relations NTB Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Budi Tri Pangestuti said in Matara on Thursday as quoted by Antara

Chairman of the Advisory Board of GNPF MUI, Habib M Rizieq Shihab, is listed as the preacher on the event. According to Vice Director of NTB Regional Police Assistant Commissioner Widiatmoko, the police did not have the authority to suspend the event if all permit requirements have been met. His statement was to respond the mass of NTB's National Alliace who reject the arrival of Habib Rizieq.

However, Widiatmoko reiterated that if later the event was deliberately exploited to provoke or create riots, the police will have the authority to stop the grand sermon activity. He assured that the police is neutral and will follow the standard operation procedure. "We will secure the event for the sake of all," he said.

Meanwhile, hundred of members of East Java's Religious Harmony and Diversity Forum staged a peaceful rally to reject the attendance of Habib Rizieq to Surabaya, East Java. Habib Rizieq was scheduled to present at the congregational Fajr prayer movement and Tabligh Akbar at the Al Falah Mosque on Saturday (January 28).
