REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The North Jakarta District Court has set the date on first trial of alleged religious blasphemy case by Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). The opening trial will be held on next Tuesday (12/13). "We will start at 09.00 am at the Kusuma Atmadja Room, North Jakarta District Court," said Public Relations of North Jakarta District Court, Hasoloan Sianturi, to the reporters on Monday.

Hasoloan said the court will be led by Head of North Jakarta District Court, judge Dwiarso Budi Setianto. Meanwhile, Dwiarso will be accompanied by four members of the judge, namely Supriyadi, Abdul Rozak, Joseph Rahantoknam and I Wayan Wijana.

Hasoloan denied North Jakarta District Court has given special treatment to the suspect by appointing five judges. According to him, the court has the right to determine numbers of judges involved in a trial without any suggestion from other party. "Usually, there were three or five judges, the most important thing is it has to be odd number so in case of deadlock, the judges could vote."

In addition, Hasoloan said the court will be open to public and transparent. Interviewed in separate location, Ahok expressed his desire that the trial of the alleged religion blasphemy case charged to him could be televised. Jokingly, he also hoped that the news coverage was as massive as the cyanide coffee case.

During the hearing (RDP) process with the Commission III of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) RI, the National Police Chief, General Tito Karnavian said maximum security would be necessary for the trial of the case. He considered it as a magnet of mass-gathering.

Tito said, however, the hearing would become the climax of the protests done by millions of Muslims in Indonesia demanded on law-enforcement. “We have already started preparing the security of the trial because it could be a magnet for mass-gathering,” Tito said in front of the members of Commission III, at the Parliamentary Building, Monday.
