REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The executive board of HMI reported Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief Inspector General M. Iriawan to the National Police Headquarters.

HMI believed the Jakarta police chief had come up with a provocative statement when dealing with rioting during the demonstration on November 4th night. "We are here is to report Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief over his statement which we considered provocative, instigating and smearing the HMI. It was in the form of a video recording that has been spreading," PB HMI general chairman Mulyadi P Tamsir disclosed here on Friday.

Mulyadi revealed that in the video, Iriawan was seen shouting "Catch HMI. Hit him. He is the provocateur."

Mulyadi claimed that it was on account of his statement that the HMI members felt they were being pitted against one another and provoked so that the peaceful rally ended in rioting. "We hope the Police Headquarters could follow up on our report as his action violated the ethical code of a state official and a law enforcement office," he underlined, as reported by Antara.

HMI's team of lawyers led by Muhammad Syukurmandar also annexed the said video recording that had gone viral on the social media and a number of photographs of actions during the demonstration. "We also have witnesses from among the HMI cadres who were standing close to the Jakarta police chief when the incident happened," he commented.

The Jakarta police chief is considered to have violated Article 160 and 310 of the Criminal Code, respectively, on instigation and libel.

Previously, Public Relations of Jakarta Metro Police Commisioner Awi Setiono has said the chief statement was aimed to the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). It was not meant to provoke the mass.

According to Awi, before the November 4th rally, FPI leader Habib Rizieq has given a guarantee to the Jakarta Metro Police chief and TNI chief that the demonstration will be a peaceful acts. Part of the deal was if there is a riot, his paramilitary troops will guard the mass and they will secure the perpetrator.

"The Chief statement was aimed to demand FPI's promises as they failed to secure the rioters," Awi said on Tuesday (11/8) at the University of Police Science, Jakarta.

Awi said the video with the 01.36 minutes length was considered hate speech. Whoever uploaded it first should apologized or otherwise he/she would be charged with hate speech article. Awi explained the police has already knew the perpetrator.
