REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked for input and advice from 17 Islamic organizations invited to the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (11/9) afternoon.
"I need input and advice from leaders of Islamic organizations in order to create policies that in accordance to the spirit of November 4th rally and also current government policy," said Jokowi accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin.
Jokowi thanked all parties involved and secured the November 4th rally so it could go on peacefully and orderly. He also appreciated aspirations from mass.
"The case of alleged religious blasphemy by Jakarta governor-inactive Basuki Tjahaja Purnama will be processed quickly and transparent," he said among others to Al Irsyad Al Islamiah, Jamiiyatul Washliyah, Ikadi, Perti, Majelis Rasulullah, Syarikat Islam, Nasyiatul Aisyiah, NU's Women, KAHMI, Mathla'ul Anwar, and Hidayatullah leaders.
Jokowi promised not intervene the legal proceeding against Ahok. He also gave his words that he will not protecting Ahok. Therefore, he asked all leaders of Islamic organizations to cool down the tension among the people and strengthen the unity. "I hoped we will remain united in our diversity," he said.
At the November 4th massive rally, Jokowi sent his ministers and vice to listen the protesters aspirations. Unable to speak directly to the president, the mass disappointed. Before the mass arrived, Jokowi left the Palace to oversee airport train project at Banten province.
Afterwards, Jokowi is criticized by many parties for not being responsive enough regarding the aspirations carried by thousands of people at the November 4th rally. "The president was so slow in making political communications with the people," Nahdatul Ulama Chairman Said Aqil Siraj said on Monday (11/7).
