Bachtiar Nasir refuses to attend at ILC television program

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA  -- National Movement to Defend the Indonesian Ulama Council's (MUI) Fatwa (GNPF-MUI) coordinator Bachtiar Nasir has refused to attend TV program Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) on Tuesday (11/8) night. He was invited by ILC host Karni Ilyas.

According to Bachtiar, the discussion could not be impartial for Muslims who demanded Jakarta Governor inactive Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) to be punished over alleged religious blasphemy. "So I decided not to attend (the ILC program)," he said.

Bachtiar said the police has been ordered to make the results of the investigation exposed to the public. He saw this move would be beneficial for Ahok. "Therefore, GNPF MUI ensured will prepare further Aksi Bela Islam (action to defend Islam) to voiced law enforcement to Ahok if case expose is proven to beneficial for Ahok."

On Monday (11/7), President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered the police to handle the case in professional, firm, and transparent manner. "But we also have to see whether there are legal rules that allow it or not," the president said, after reviewing the new toll roads in the Kalimalang area, East Jakarta.

Previously, on Saturday (5/11), the President summoned the National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian and asked the Police to run legal proceedings against Ahok openly. This was to ensured the government are professional in law enforcement. National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department examined Ahok on Monday (11/7) related to religious blasphemy case.
