REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian jamu (herbal medicine) has been exported to Middle East region, ASEAN, and Hong Kong. "Our ambassadors have introduced herbal medicine in many countries," said Chairman of the Central Java branch Jamu association Nyoto Wardoyo, on Wednesday (19/10).

The ambassadors introduced jamu as herbal medicine. 'Exports of Indonesian herbal medicine are growing. "Jamu consumers felt the products are beneficial for their health," he said.

Meanwhile, he also appreciated the government for providing facility to encourage the growth of the herbal medicine industry. In the other hand, the entrepreneurs urged the government to speed up the license issuance process. "If all of requirements already submitted, please issue the license immediately," he said.

Jamu association wished to maintain a synergy between farmers, entrepreneurs, and researchers from universities. ''Now all parties already supported the herbal medicine industry," he said.

Nyoto also hoped the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) would cover herbal medicine for certain disease. Some of herbal medicine already classified as alternative for modern drugs after its benefit were proven in clinical trial. "For instance, medical staff can recommend herbal medicine to relieve coughs or influenza," he remarked.

These efforts are expected to boost herbal medicine market, both at homeland and abroad.
