Madame Tussauds Hong Kong to create President Jokowi wax statue

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Madame Tussauds wax museum in Hong Kong will create Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wax statue. Team of Madame Tussauds Museum has came to the State Palace in Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/10) to measure and take pictures of Jokowi.

Presidential Secretariat head Darmansjah Djumala said, Madame Tussauds Museum proposed to make Jokowi wax statue. The state palace gave a green light for it.

Previously, Madame Tussaud museum carried out a pool asking its visitors recommendation on the world leaders 2016 that should be made into a wax statue and displayed in the museum. "Among their suggestions, the top request of the visitors of Madame Tussaud museum in category of world leaders is President Jokowi," Djumala said, Wednesday (12/10).

After the poll, Djumala said, the Madame Tussauds wax museum did a research. They found that Jokowi is an iconic figure and his appearance is unique with his white shirt. "Madame Tusasaud museum wants to show Jokowi wax statue, simple, populist and anti-corruption. Jokowi as world leader in developing countries, Asia," said Djumala.

The Madame Tussauds museum team will create Jokowi wax statue in London, UK. General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, Jenny You, said the process of making Jokowi wax statue will take four to six months.

Furthermore, Jenny explained, the team comprised of popular artists, expert in the making of statues of world leaders. The wax statue costs about 1.8 million Hong Kong dollars. "We have measured and took photograph of President Jokowi to ensure the wax statue has a perfect shape," Jenny said in a press conference at the State Palace.

According to Jenny, President Jokowi also donated his traditional batik collection to Madame Tussauds Museum. His statue will be worn batik at the National Batik Day. It can be enjoyed by the visitors in mid-2017.
