President witnesses airborne exercise in Natuna Islands

President Joko Widodo monitored KRI Imam Bonjol 383 after a meeting about Natuna in the warship while it sailed the Natuna waters, Riau Islands, Thursday (6/23).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NATUNA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana witnessed the Angkasa Yudha airborne exercise on Natuna Islands on Thursday. Dozens of Indonesian F-16 and Sukhoi fighter jets took part in the exercise.

Also, a unit of Sukhoi Su 30 and two F-16 units held an aerial dog-fight training exercise. During the military training, the Hawk 100/200 fighter jets, T50i Golden Eagle and Super Tucano bombed a target in Natuna waters, Riau Islands.

Additionally, the TNI AU's Special Forces (Paskhas) conducted military static and dynamic line jumps from the rear of a CN-295 and C-130 Hercules, as part of a security exercise. The Air Force also successfully struck the remaining targets at sea using Oerlikon cannons and QW3 missiles.

Several squadrons of Super Puma helicopter also conducted evacuation and relief drills, practicing the rescue of a simulated pilot who ejected from a warplane. As part of the exercise, the President received honorary badges from the Air Force.

Meanwhile, the president was also scheduled to visit the construction site of a cold storage facility at the Center for Integrated Marine and Fisheries (SKT) in the Straits of Lampa. In addition, the head of state will visit a floating dock and a naval base.
