REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  Vice Chairman of Commission I House of Representative, TB Hasanuddin, said the Army chief Gatot Nurmantyo statement has troubling the public. According to Gatot, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) is unable to map the security issues and formulate anticipation of a possible threat from the outside   

According to Hasanuddin, it was odd to exposed such worries to the public. "The  Army chief is responsible for the safety of the country," he said on a press statement on Tuesday (10/3).

The former President's Military Secretary urged criticism and autocritics related to state security should be addressed in the internal government alone, and do not need to be revealed to the public. "It should be discussed in the internal government" Hasanuddin said.

Besides, Hasanuddin added, in Law No. 34 of 2004 on the TNI Chapter IV on the Role, Functions and Duties, has been explained that the Army also have a role to counter the threat from the outside. Therefore, the military is equipped with an intelligence agency called BAIS (Strategic Intelligence Agency). The agency is directly responsible to the Army chief.

As known, in an interview with the weekly magazine, the TNI chief Gatot Nurmantyo revealed himself since the rank of Colonel, BIN and BAIS have never again deliver the formulation of the threat of the Indonesian nation. "I am a person who is very concerned about the condition of our country. Worried inadvertently, I do is protest against things done when I was a colonel. A country should have a contingency plan (backup)," said Gatot.

In fact, said Gatot, all the institution never conveys threats this nation. "(It happens) Until now. The BIN should be formulating a threat to the country," said Gatot.
