Cadet Sail 2016 to enhance relationship among SEA nations cadets

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- After stopped by in Bali a week ago, ASEAN Cadet Sail 2016 has reached Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The 47 cadets from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Philippines arrived there together with Indonesian Naval Academy (AAL) cadets on September 20.

They have been sailing aboard the-64 years old legendary  Indonesian Warship (KRI) Dewa Ruci from 10 September to 10 October 2016 in order to conduct integrated practical navigation exercise. Their took route from Surabaya to Mataram-Bali-Makassar-Balikpapan-Semarang and then sail back to Surabaya.

"The ASEAN Cadet Sail 2016 is a part of regional cooperation program between South East Asian states which themed “Strengthening The Young Generation Brotherhood of ASEAN”," Chief of Public Affair Department of Indonesian Navy, Commodor Edi Sucipto said in a statement.

The sail event was commenced right after ASEAN Cadet Seminar 2016 on  8th and 9th of September 2016 at the AAL, Surabaya, Indonesia.

"The purpose of this event is to nurture relationship among cadets as young generation in ASEAN countries under “Seaman Brotherhood” within everlasting experience as preparation to be future leader in the region," Edi said.

All of the cadets are involved in several activities during the sail, such as courtesy call to high rank military as well as civil authorities, tourism visit, open ship, cultural performance and country presentation.

By participating in ASEAN Cadet Sail. it is expected that the cadets will cultivate their friendship and bonding them for the challenging future as well as to have comprehensive understanding on Indonesia and themself.  

These young generations will work together under spirit of "ASEAN way" focus on mutual understanding, non-interference, and non-coercive resolution.

In broader perspective, this regional event is a part of Indonesian Navy’s world class navy paradigm that has been pursued in recent year.

Indonesian Navy is actively involved in region activities to promote good order in the region within the framework of its national policy and seeking peaceful resolution.
