Cadet Sail 2016 arrives in Makassar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- ASEAN Cadet Sail 2016 has reached Makassar, South Sulawesi on September 20.

The fourty seven cadets from neighboring countries, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Philippines have been on boarding the -64 years old- legendary Indonesian Warship (KRI) Dewa Ruci from September 10.

They sailed Surabaya-Mataram-Bali-Makassar-Balikpapan-Semarang-Surabaya together with Indonesian Naval Academy ( AAL) cadet in order to conduct integrated practical navigation exercise. The program will be ended on October 10.

The ASEAN Cadet Sail 2016 is a part of regional cooperation program between South East Asian states which themed “Strengthening The Young Generation Brotherhood of ASEAN” .

The sail event was commenced right after ASEAN Cadet Seminar 2016 on September 8-9, at the AAL, Surabaya, East Java.

"The purpose is to nurture relationship among cadets as young generation in ASEAN countries under “Seaman Brotherhood” within everlasting experience as preparation to be future leader in the region," Navy Spokesman Lt Col Maman Sulaeman said on a statement made available to Republika.co.id.

During the sail, all cadets will experience courtesy call to high rank military as well as civil authorities, tourism visit, open ship, cultural performance and country presentation.

"We expect the cadets will cultivate their friendship and it will bond them for the challenging future as well as to have comprehensive understanding on Indonesia and themself," Maman said.

Those young generations will work together under spirit of "ASEAN way" focus on mutual understanding, non-interference, and non-coercive resolution.

In broader perspective, this regional event is a part of Indonesian Navy’s paradigm to be world class navy. Indonesian Navy is actively involved in region activities to promote good order in the region within the framework of its national policy and seeking peaceful resolution.
