Nine recommendations for Muslims about Jakarta gubernatorial election

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Thousand of Muslims attended the prayer and listened to Islamic leaders advices to seek a Muslim to be Jakarta governor. They gathered at the Istiqlal Mosque, on Sunday (9/18).   

On that occasion, they agreed on a nine-point perspective from a number of Islamic leaders.

At the ceremony, attended by a number of scholars and major figures such as Kiai Didin Hafidhudin, Hidayat Nur Wahid, Bachtiar Nasir, Habib Rizieq and Amien Rais.

Representing all, Bachtiar said that the nine points are considered to be a Muslim voice ahead of Jakarta gubernatorial election 2017. The nine points are hereinafter referred to as the Risalah Istiqlal or Istiqlal Deals.

1. To all Muslims to close ranks to win a better Muslim leaders.

2. Called to the pro people parties to maximize the efforts to agree on a single candidate for a pair of Muslims for governor candidate.

3. Called to all Muslims to vote in Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2017.

4. Called to all Muslim to cling to their religion by simply selecting Muslim candidates. It's illegitimate (haram) to choose non-Muslim and abstentions.

5. Called to the Muslims to resist against and report any kind of bribery and money politics that were shaped like a dawn raid.

6. The importance of pro-people political parties to maximize the power that they have, as well as involving all potential elements or people to win a pair of candidate promoted by the Muslims.

7. To strenghten brotherhood and be wary of any form of slander and provocations aimed at the candidate promoted by the Muslims.

8. To reminds all official Election Commission DKI RT/RW assigned as KPPS to oversee and supervise the elections, in order to materialize the city elections were free and fair.

9. Encouraging the parties to withdraw their support to the non-Muslim candidates. If they did not agree with this appeal, then Muslims are called not to vote the party.

Previously, Secretary General of the Council of Intellectual and Young Ulama of Indonesia (MIUMI), Ustaz (Islamic cleric) Bachtiar Nasir condemned that several parties are trying to deter an event of a friendship Akbar and Prayer for Jakarta's leadrship in Jakarta, Sunday (18/9).

He said Muslims owned the mosque. Nobody can forbid Muslims in the mosque as long as for religious and Islamic activities.

"Muslims have mosques, and we agree to maintain the honor and dignity of the Istiqlal Mosque," Ustaz Bachtiar said during the event friendship and Prayer for Jakarta's leadership, Sunday (18/9).

The administrator previously revoked the permission of the event of friendship and Prayer for Jakarta's Leadership because it is considered political. However, after dialogue between the administrator and the committee of the event, the permission was given.
