Indonesia blocks three gay applications

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA-- The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) is blocking three gay applications starting today.

Those three apps are BoyAhoy, Grindr, and Blued.

"We decided it yesterday after the panel team meeting and today we are blocking it," Kemenkominfo spokesman Noor Iza when contacted on Thursday (9/15).

The decision was made a couple of weeks after the police revealed a link between Grindr as gay networking apps and a male prostitution ring that offered minors to gay.

Kemenkominfo blocked BoyAhoy, Grindr, and Blued as requested by the panel team which comprise of a number of stakeholders. LGBT-related content declared as promoting “sexual deviancy".

According to Noor, the three apps meets the parameters set by the panel team to be blocked. Meanwhile, applications for other gay, previously amounting to 18 applications, Noor said it might be blocked.
