Ministry still verifying one Indonesian citizen kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's foreign affairs ministry is still verifying information about one Indonesian citizen has been kidnapped by armed group Abu Sayyaf.

Director for the Protection of Indonesians Citizens and Legal Entity (PWNI/BHI) of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Lalu Muhammad Iqbal said the ministry still verifying information about one Indonesian citizen has been kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf. Lalu said the Foreign Ministry has been known the news since August 4 and the ministry has sent representatives to Sabah, Malaysia, on August 5.

"However we hear unclear and contrary information between the related parties, so we are still verifying," he said to Republika.co.id, Monday (8/8).

He explained Indonesian citizen protection team has existed in Sabah and is coordinating with local authorities to ensure some of information. Lalu said Indonesia's foreign affais ministry could not convey in detail how the current conditions due to still in the verification phase.

Previously, it was rumored on Friday (5/8) that Indonesian fishermen named Herman bin Manggak at Kinabatangan-Sabah region near the border with the Philippine sea. Herman is captain of a shrimp boat. Herman addition there are two other crew members (ABK) from Indonesian and Malaysian who had abducted but they were released. Two crew members now at Sandakan, Sulu.

"Team of Indonesia’s consulate general has been communicated with the local police, and scheduled to meet with the two crew members to get more information," he said.
