Indonesia to hold international meeting for combating terrorism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government will hold an International Meeting for Combating Terrorism (IMCT) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on August 10, 2016.

"This meeting show the commitment of Indonesia to combat terrorism with holistic strategy," Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Jakarta, Thursday (4/8).

According Arrmanatha, IMCT will be opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who also will give a keynote speech on August 10. Then the meeting will be chaired by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto with Australian Justice Minister Michael Keenan.

Head of the Counter-Terrorism Sub of Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry Gatot Amrih Djemirin explained IMCT will focus on addressing transboundary movement of terrorism, perpetrators, information and funding.

"The results of the meeting will submitted to the UN General Assembly next September," he said.

IMCT also be preceded by discussions Combating Terrorism Financing (CTF) on August 8 to 9, which will be led by Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), which would be attended by financial institutions in 35 countries and nine international organizations.

As many as 24 countries have confirmed attendance at the CTF, including the United States of America, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

International organizations will be present, among others, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), the UN Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate (UNCTED), anti-money laundering of Asia Pacific group, Internasionl Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and Interpol.
