29 boats seized for poaching fish in July

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Twenty-nine boats have been caught for fishing illegally in the Indonesian waters during the month of July, 2016, minister of fisheries and marine resources, Susi Pudjiastuti. said here on Monday.

"During the operations in July, 29 illegal fishing boats have been caught. 16 boats were caught by the fisheries ministry, six by police security maintenance agency, 3 by sea security agency and 4 by the navy," she said at her office.

She said her office's Orca 01 KKP ship had caught a Vietnamese-flagged ship while Orca 2 two foreign ships without flags and Orca 3 eight Vietnamese-flagged fishing boats in Natuna waters.

Hiu 13 meanwhile caught two Malaysian boats and Hiu Macan Tutul 02 two boats flying Malaysian and Vietnamese flags also in Natuna waters.

Napoleon 049 on the other hand caught an Indonesian-flagged boat in eastern Arafura waters.

Indonesia did not discriminate against any ship caught poaching fish in the country's waters.

"No matter where they come from if they are discovered poaching fish in the country's waters they will be punished," minister Susi Pudjiastuti has said.

She said the Indonesian government has committed to put the fishery sector in order and hoped ships from foreign countries to respect the country's exclusive economic zone.
