REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian workers and students won several awards at the Taiwan Migrants Video Award (TMVA) 2016, the Director of Global Worker's Organization (GWO), Karen Hsu said via a call from here Monday.

"There are nine Indonesian participants winning the citizen journalism video records competition," Hsu, who is also an organizer of the competition, said.

The awarding of the best citizen journalism video was conducted at an event held in the Museum of Taiwan in Taipei on July 31, 2016.

The annual competition in 2016 is the second time, consisting of two categories, citizen journalist and short video.

The nine Indonesian winners were able to overcome other participants from Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Last year, Indonesian participants also won a number of titles, but not as many as this year.

One of the best videos from Indonesia is made by Andry Setyowati, who works as a caregiver, titled Amazing Kaohsiung. This video attracted the attention of the judges from several Southeast Asian countries.

"This competition gives foreign workers and students an opportunity to record their life's journey during their stay in Taiwan," Karen said.

Besides talking about their lives during their stay in Taiwan, a number of participants also sent videos on attractive tourist sites on Formosa Island.

The Taiwan tourism ministry should use the videos made by these talented foreigners in promoting the tourism potential of the island to Southeast Asians, a jury member, Zhuang Feng Jia, said.

"This year the videos are much better than those last year. All videos are very inspiring and motivate the foreigners to work far away from their families," Zhuang said.

GWO allowed the participants to express themselves in accordance with their national languages and traditions. Therefore, the judges were from several different countries, besides Taiwan.
