REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Attorney General HM Prasetyo has given the assurance that 14 death-row convicts will be executed in Nusakambangan island off the southern coast of Central Java.

"If nothing changes the number will be 14," he said here on Wednesday.

He expressed the hope that the third round of the execution of death-row convicts would run as expected.

If everything is final, the execution will not be delayed, he said.

Among the death row convicts are Freddy Budiman and Merry Utami of Indonesia and Zulfigar of Pakistan.

Budiman was convicted of drug offenses. The Supreme Court has turned down his request for a review of his case.

Asked whether the execution will be carried out on Friday or Saturday, the attorney general said he was still waiting for certainty.

"I am still waiting for what still has to be done," he said.

Surely, the families of the death-row convicts have been gathered and the concerned embassies have been informed of the planned execution, he said.

"All the death row convicts have been isolated," he said.

Last year, 14 drug convicts awarded death penalty were executed on the same island in January and April.

Foreigners, including those from Australia, Brazil and Nigeria made up for most of the convicts executed last year.

The executions drew sharp criticism, including from home and abroad, but President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has repeatedly said he would not grant clemency to drug convict.
