REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Five Indonesian senior high school students won a gold medal and special awards at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) held in Harbin, China from July 15-20, 2016.
The First Secretary of the Indonesian Science Institute (LIPI), Siti Nuramaliati Prijono, said here on Thursday that the students are working under LIPI's guidance as put together three scientific works.
According to her, the success of these five students is an indicator of the research quality of teenagers in Indonesia.
"We keep improving the teenagers? research quality by inviting them for such scientific competitions as the National Young Inventor Award," Nuramaliati added.
Aan Aria Nanda and Feriawan Tan from the Senior High School in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, won the gold medal for an innovation titled D-box CC (Detector Box for CO and CO2).
The technology is able to detect carbon dioxide and carbon mono oxide, poisonous for human beings, in the environment.
In addition, Ryan Timothy Abisha from Sampoerna Academy Jakarta won a silver medal for his innovation called Smart Trash Bin.
The technology helps people, especially children, in categorizing various types of waste as organic, inorganic and metal. It also won Special Awards from Japan and Macau.
Meanwhile, Asep Muhamady Anwar Salim and Muchammad Alfarisi from the Vocational School in Cimahi, West Java won a Special Award from Singapore and one from Thailand for their innovation named Flood Mitigation System, an early warning system for floods wherein the alert is transmitted via mobile text.
It will help people remain alert and deal better with floods, thus cutting down losses.
