REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MUKOMUKO -- An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter Scale jolted Mukomuko District, Bengkulu Province, on Sunday at 4:15 a.m. local time, causing several local residents to rush out of their homes into open areas in panic.
The quake's epicenter was located at 3.23 degree southern latitude and 101 degree eastern longitude, around 66 km southwest of Mukomuko, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, the Mukomuko meteorology, climatology and geophysics office (BMKG) said in a statement.
Fahrik, inhabitant of Medan Jaya in Mukomuko, said he and his family were having "suhoor" (the meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting) when they felt a quite strong tremor.
"Spontaneously, we took the children and rushed out of our home," he said.
