Minister: Awareness of e-leadership needed

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communications and Information Rudiantara said  we need government leaders to have the awareness on the importance of information and communication technologies, in order to build a future that is responsive, effective, efficient, accountable, transparent and able to reach to all community.

This topic was mentioned in the book of digital bureaucracy by the Ministry of Justice Yassona H Laoly in Jakarta, Monday (14/6) night.

The Minister said, the awareness of e-leadership should be owned by the leaders, especially leaders in the area, given that many public services are now performed by local governments than the central government, along with regional autonomy.

"At the center of it, we can now easily count services that directly relate to the public, for example, passport, driving license, vehicle registration and if it is is within the area – ​​birth certificates up till their death," he said.

Through public services that is supported by digital technology, it will certainly make the process become more effective, efficient and capable to reach out to wider audience.

For example, the process of creating business license will be easier, faster and less bureaucratic. Similarly, services to the community for the processes of death certificate and birth certificates will no longer be long-winded and tedious.

He cited the use of information and communication technology  in the smart village program that has been adopted by 40 villages in Banyuwangi. Through the program, according to the Minister, there were able to cut down on bureaucracy and facilitate community services.

Villagers are now no longer have to travel long distances to districts or the city, which is usually a time consuming process.

To that end, he stressed the awareness of e-leadership essential for leaders in this country to meet the technological age of information and communication to be more efficient and effective.

"It takes a leader who understood, would break down, would provide services based on good governanace, and for that they need to have an e-leadership, if one does not posses e-leadership then all of this effeciency will not be accomplished,” he added.
