REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The Central Java provincial government has set itself the target of lowering poverty rate to 9.93 percent by 2018 in keeping with its 2015-2018 poverty control strategy (SPKD).

"Based on statistical data issued in September 2015, the province's poverty rate stood at 13.32 percent or 4.5 million people lived in poverty," chief of the Central Java provincial poverty control coordination team (TKPKD) Heru Sudjatmoko said here on Sunday.

The number of people living in poverty declined by 71.26 thousand compared to statistical data issued in March 15, he said.

However, the figure exceeded the national poverty rate which reached 11.13 percent or 28.51 million as of September 2015, he said.

He noted that 15 out of 35 districts and municipalities still have high poverty rate, including Blora, Grobogan, Cilacap, Purworejo, Klaten, Demak, Sragen, Banyumas, Banjarnegara, Pemalang, Rembang, Purbalingga, Brebes, Kebumen, and Wonosobo.

Judging by the condition, the Central Java provincial government is cooperating with all parties to reduce the poverty rate, he said.

"The SKPD was drawn up to serve as guidance for stakeholders to reduce the poverty rate as quickly as possible so we will be able to achieve the target of reducing poverty rate to 12.20-11.79 percent by 2016, to 11.30-10.83 percent by 2017, and to 10.40- 9.93 percent by 2018," he said.

To achieve the target the provincial government will cooperate with the central government, district and municipal governments, regional legislative council, institutes of higher learning, organizations and social figures, he said.
