REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saefuddin here on Sunday evening announced that Monday (June 6, 2016) is the first day of the fasting month of Ramadan 1437 Hegira.

The minister made the remarks after presiding over a hearing attended by General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council Ma'ruf Amin, a number of chiefs of Islamic mass organizations, including Islamic figures in Jakarta.

After announcing the first day of the holy month of Ramadhan, Minister Lukman Hakim Saefuddin was scheduled to perform the Tarawih prayers (evening prayers during the fasting month) in the grand mosque Istiqlal along with a great number of Muslims in Jakarta.
