Karo Regent asks residents to avoid red zone of Mount Sinabung

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra is still in eruptions. Regent of Karo, North Sumatra, Terkelin Brahmana hoped the residents in Mount Sinabung area can avoid the red zone of Mount Sinabung.

"The eruptions in Mount Sinabung now often occur. However, we expect of cold lava or heat clouds, no more causing victims," Terkelin told to reporters in Senayan National Golf Club, Jakarta, Thursday (2/6) night.

Terkelin also hoped that the people in Mount Sinabung area to have high awareness not to enter the red zone. According to him, the central government especially team of National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and Ministry of Public Works and Housing make the plan related ISO Landslide Early Warning System. In the future, the system is ready to be used to keep the Mount Sinabung, Karo District, North Sumatra.

"Today we had met in BNPB, then the next week they are already working. Perhaps within three months is already completed, so they can know the situation of rain or hot lava if it happens," he explained.

He continued, the government also will build Sabo Dam. He said the government has planned to build of 10 Sabo Dam in Mount Sinabung area to prevent flooding of lava. Sabo is dam and built to prevent the danger of lava flood. He added, there will be also like belt around the Mount Sinabung.

"So, there are signals, code, sirens, and so on. If all are merged, it will be perfect to avoid more victims," he said.
