Governor of West Nusa Tenggara rejects import of onions

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) TGH M Zainul Majdi will reject the plan to import onions that will be done by central government.

He rejected the plan if the price of shallots level fall and is not absorbed by the societies and also state logistics agency(Bulog).

"If the import causes onions price fall, we will reject," he told to reporters in Mataram, NTB, Wednesday (1/6).

He stressed the shallots prices is good in farmers level and absorbed well. Then import can be made if it is done well and will not cause problem for the farmer.

“The important thing is, Agriculture Ministry (Kementan), to ensure absorptive price and the purchase in areas is good. Farmers can get the profit," he said.

Zainul Majdi also reminded to communities to reduce consumption before of fasting month. So the traders will not raise the onions price arbitrarily.
