REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- The government of West Java Provincial City of Bogor has urged the local community not to smoke cigarettes, and thus avoid the risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

"If you want to be healthy, do not smoke. A healthy person is someone who does not smoke," Bogor city Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman stated here on Saturday.

According to him, since 2009, the Bogor city administration has remained committed to becoming a Non Smoking Area or KTR, as stipulated in the local regulation (Perda) number 12/2009.

"The KTR is not aimed at forbidding the community from smoking, but advocates a more ethical position of not smoking in the non smoking area," Usmar pointed out during a Healthy Motion activity.

During the Healthy Motion event, organized by the local Democrat Party, Dr Adelia of the Bogor City Health Affairs Office provided information about the dangers that smoking poses and encouraged housewives to remind their family members not to smoke in the house.

"Smoking is one of causes that can lead to degenerative diseases, such as cardiac diseases that carry the risk of death. Housewives should understand this and they must remind their family members to quit smoking," Dr Adelia stated.
