REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly opened the 22nd conference of the Indonesian Notary Association (INA) here on Thursday.

The congress, attended by 2.5 thousand representatives of INA's regional executive boards across the country, was held to elect the chairman of the central executive board and honorary board members of the organization.

Minister Laoly, in his opening address, remarked that the government was keen to maintain the notarial profession as it was associated with dignity and respect.

"Do not do anything that is contrary to propriety and the rules that apply. The code of ethics of the notary must be upheld and must be used during decision making," the minister emphasized.

Laoly made the statement while referring to numerous reports of "rogue" notaries who were tarnishing the image of the profession by failing to work professionally and maintain dignity.

To this end, the government is currently reviewing several innovations related to improving the professionalism of notaries.

"The government is currently reviewing the digitization process to store notary documents and to hold a competency test for notaries," he said.
