REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- The Market Management Department of Yogyakarta city will organize activities to promote traditional markets this year, but a different concept will be used as compared to the previous years.

"Unlike the promotional program in 2015, we will this year offer vouchers that can be exchanged for premium products in traditional markets," spokesman of the Yogyakarta Market Management Department Rudi Firdaus remarked here on Wednesday.

He stated that during a similar promotional program held in the previous years, the consumers were offered prizes in the form of electronic gadgets and automotive products, but this year, shopping vouchers of different values will be handed out.

Firdaus expressed hope that the gift vouchers will be able to increase the turnover of the merchants as consumers will go shopping in traditional markets.

"Prizes in the form of shopping vouchers are expected to attract more consumers and increase their awareness about various types of merchandise available in traditional markets," he explained.

According to Firdaus, gift vouchers to shop at traditional markets will be handed out every week to consumers, so they do not have to wait until the end of the promotional activities.

Firdaus added that the promotional activities were aimed at increasing the number of shoppers and the turnover of traders in traditional markets.
