REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Manpower minister Hanif Dhakiri said here on Sunday that the government would never revoke PP 78/2015 despite workers' demand so far.

"Never will it be revoked. It will remain," he said after attending a function at the Post Office Building.

He said the government would even strengthen its enforcement so that it is really adhered to by all regions in the country.

"The wage system across regions must follow PP 78/2015," he said.

Rejection of the government regulation on wage has become the theme of all workers' demonstrations since its adoption in October 2015, following the issuance of the government's fourth economic policy package. One of the reasons for rejecting the regulation is that it provides no opportunity for workers to take part in determining a raise through the Wage Council which is a government-employers-workers tripartite body.

Based on the regulation the annual raise of wage is made based upon certain formula set by the government following inflation and economic growth rates.

Based on the formula a new minimum wage is equal to the current wage times the percentage of inflation and growth rates.

The government said the policy was made to give certainty with regard to wage increase every year and to prevent workers from being given a low wage.

Thousands of workers took part in the demonstration in the capital city on Sunday to mark May Day.
