1,242 families affected by flood in Karawang

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Disaster Mitigation Agency BNPB stated that at least 1,242 families have been affected by floods this weekend in Karawang District, West Java.

Head of Data and Information Center of BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a release here, Saturday, that the flood caused by high intensity rain has inundated three villages namely Telukbuyung, Telukjaya and Segaran, in Pakisjaya Subdistrict since Friday (April 22).

"People are still taking refuge," Nugroho said.

The flood also inundated 198 hectare of paddy field in the region.

The BNPB along with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency BPBD, The Military, National Search and Rescue Agency Basarnas, Indonesian Red Cross and volunteers are working together for the emergency response in the area.

BNPB predicted high intensity rainfall may occur until May 2016 in Indonesia, while the dry season is expected to arrive in June.
